FC Barcelona is set to join the non-fungible tokens craze by launching an NFT collection “based on some of the club’s historic moments.”
The La Liga side will issue digital files, including pictures and videos from its archives, as NFTs later this month.
The collection will be auctioned on Ownix, an ethereum-based marketplace, and should hopefully stimulate positive vibes in and around the club after a disastrous start to the season.
“Creating these NFTs is a unique opportunity to continue growing and consolidating the Barça brand by bringing unique moments that have made Barça fans dream and FC Barcelona a well-known club on every level,” Barcelona’s President Joan Laporta said.
Barcelona are economically crippled, with reports claiming that the Camp Nou side owes $1.5 billion. This dire financial situation led to the exit of two key players Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, last summer.
The bromance between Sports, NFTs, and Crypto is slowly becoming a norm. Last Month, Italian club Lazio launched its fan token and also signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with mainstream crypto exchange Binance.
