Popular Democratic Lawmaker Eric Swawell wants the US Congress to investigate the role that cryptocurrency plays in ransomware attacks after the recent cyberspace assault on Kaseya that affected hundreds of businesses around the world.

“The lights are flashing red. #Ransomware attacks like the #Kaseya attack threaten critical infrastructure, small businesses & national security.” Eric Swawell said, “Congress must look into attack reporting, crypto’s role, and gov’t software security—then take swift action.”

The Miami-based software company suffered a cyberattack on Friday, sources speculate that notorious ransomware crew REvil was behind the attack.

The evil-genius Russian gang struck not too long ago taking down a major gas pipeline and largescale meat producer in the US.
