Russian legislators want to rejig the existing criminal code to enable the country seize illegally earned cryptourrencies.
According to Chief Prosecutor Igor Krasnov, lawmakers have begun the process of amending the regulations.
The modifications will grant authorities the power to confiscate crypto amassed from criminal activities.
During a meeting of prosecutors’ offices held today, Ignor Krasnov complained about the worrying illicit usage of crypto in Russia.
“The criminal usage of cryptocurrencies poses a serious challenge in our country,”
Krasnov said the Digital Financial Assets (DFA) law adopted by Russia “has played a crucial role in tackling this problem, but new criminal code amendments would bring additional protection.
“This would allow the application of restrictive measures and confiscation of virtual assets,” Krasnov stressed.
