AMC Entertainment during a Q2 earnings call said it will support cryptocurrency as a means of payment by the end of 2021.
The movie theatre chain hopes to achieve this with the help of IT systems that will be put in place.
CEO Adam Aaron claims the company’s thirst to explore the crypto space is in the “preliminary stage” but they’re fascinated by the impressive business opportunities it might offer.
“We are also in the preliminary stage of now exploring how else AMC can participate in this new burgeoning cryptocurrency universe and we’re quite intrigued by potentially lucrative business opportunities for AMC if we intelligently pursue further serious involvement with cryptocurrency,” Adam said.
AMC delving into the volatile crypto industry doesn’t come as a surprise, the struggling movie theatre chain is considered a volatile asset itself.
The company which runs 593 theatres across the US and 335 international locations will also accept payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay by the end of the year.
